The overwhelming majority of medals in the world were won by people who finished in the middle. They trained hard, they were never going to place, and they went back the following year anyway.

That is who this one is for, and it is the largest group in the sport by a distance. Nothing on the display refers to results, which is the entire idea.

Mid-pack collections tend to be the largest ones, because the people in them keep entering. Twenty years of finishing seventieth is a lot of medals.

Below are the widths this design is cut in. The honest advice for a gift is to size on the drawer, not on the wall.

Steel, not sheet metal with paint on it

The whole medal display is one panel of AISI 304 stainless steel (V2A / 1.4301), 2.5-3 mm thick according to width. Cheap racks are thin painted steel and the paint goes first, usually at a corner.

The medals hang from a continuous rail, which is the reason a full display still looks even rather than bunched around fixed points.

Getting it on the wall

Stainless standoffs, screws, plugs and a paper template are all in the box. Tape the template up, mark two holes, drill, and it is done inside a quarter of an hour.

Running out of room

Buy a second and line it up directly beneath or beside this one — the proportions are designed so a pair looks intentional. The widest version holds up to 110 medals across three rails.
