The version for a room rather than a corridor

The third arrangement of the phrase, and the one people pick for a study, a home gym or the wall behind a desk — somewhere it is looked at deliberately rather than glanced at on the way past.

In a room, the display sits closer to eye level and gets read properly, so a 35 or 45 cm unit carries perfectly well. Save the wide sizes for the wall at the end of a corridor.

In a study or a home office it ends up in video calls, which a surprising number of buyers mention. Worth positioning with that in mind.

Below are the widths this design is cut in. The honest advice for a gift is to size on the drawer, not on the wall.

Size & capacity

Size Steel 1 rail 2 rails 3 rails
35 x 8 cm 2.5 mm 8-12 15-22 20-30
45 x 8 cm 2.5 mm 13-20 24-36 34-50
60 x 11 cm 3 mm 21-30 38-55 55-75
75 x 11.5 cm 3 mm 31-45 55-80 75-110

Not sure which size?

A wall you sit close to needs less width. 35 and 45 cm both work in a room.

Steel, not sheet metal with paint on it

The whole medal display is one panel of AISI 304 stainless steel (V2A / 1.4301), 2.5-3 mm thick according to width. Cheap racks are thin painted steel and the paint goes first, usually at a corner.

The medals hang from a continuous rail, which is the reason a full display still looks even rather than bunched around fixed points.

Getting it on the wall

Stainless standoffs, screws, plugs and a paper template are all in the box. Tape the template up, mark two holes, drill, and it is done inside a quarter of an hour.

Running out of room

Buy a second and line it up directly beneath or beside this one — the proportions are designed so a pair looks intentional. The widest version holds up to 110 medals across three rails.
